Unboxing

- whereupon many questions and wonderings might be answered via the eyes.

Specifications and a general overview and description.

Specifications
Impedance: 24 Ohms.
Sensitivity: 108dB/mW.
Frequency Response Range: 3Hz-40kHz.
Gold-Plated 3.5mm Termination Plug.
Rated Power: 50mW.
Cable Length: 1.8Mtr.

A solid case for home storage or whilst traveling.

A start guide, warranty card and a set of ear pads with a larger perforation.

The stock pads i presume are the more dynamic and the extra included larger perforation pass more laidback and detailed like with the SR1 PR1 second release pads.

Specifications again from the manual.

Save your ears and hearing - a frequency chart for those so inclined.

Open the case to reveal the iBasso SR2 headphones and cable.

A nice lightweight yet solid and robust build.

The cable veers away from SR1 MMCX connectors for a twin 3.5mm plug that connects to the ear cups..

One can use the larger screw on plug for home systems or unscrew it for a 3.5mm plug.

An attractive piece of kit.

Finer details

Adjustable headband for fit and comfort.

Sound

A quick listen found it to be a resolving headphone with no real push towards the low or high end.
Fairly balanced towards reference/neutral but with a slight warmish body to it.
Excellent clarity.

But more listening is to be done.

Later…

I had time to dedicate some listening over a few days. I usually use headphones mostly for gaming and vary rarely for music these days as i have moved onto easy to carry IEMs.

Sometimes late at night once the kids have gone to sleep i will treat myself to a headphone session out of the Max etc

The iBasso SR2 is a move up in design in my personal opinion from the SR1. More streamlined and simple curves. It is fairly lightweight on the skull and the pads are comfortable.
A great cable, accessories and overall build quality seals the deal.

They are fairly balanced across the board as most iBasso items tend towards reference or at least a natural/neutral sound.

The SR2 has quality bass, just the right amount. It does not drown one in unnecessary quantity.

The mids are lush with a decent reach at each end without getting mushy, too forward or overly warm.

The treble is fast and clean and delivers a clarity without extending too far into unwelcome territory for ones precious ears.

Overall they present a coherent and pleasing experience and i can happily sit on the couch (ie lie down) and listen for a few hours whilst fiddling with my phone and not experience any discomfort either from the headphones or unwelcome sibilance or fatigue.

Although reference/neutral/natural they are also quite emotive and give enough body to the sound to please.

Well tuned and well built.
