Rain earphone impressions & pseudo rephiew - expatinjapan

 What causes it to rain?
Rain is liquid precipitation: water falling from the sky. Raindrops fall to Earth when clouds become saturated, or filled, with water droplets. Millions of water droplets bump into each other as they gather in a cloud. When a small water droplet bumps into a bigger one, it condenses, or combines, with the larger one.‘ - National Geographic.

Available earbud and cable for $45 or just the earbud for $35 at https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=Apesonic+rain&SortType=8&N=  (Not a sponsor - just posted for your convenience).

I heard its a rip off of another model named SNOW. But the RAIN model is more liquid sounding and the SNOW is more cold and clinical/technical.

Apesonic Rain.

US$50.

Buckle Up Buckeroos!

Unboxing and schnizzle schnazzlez

Some glorious tips for a change.Pythagoras said dont lick the bean. Why?

I’m a Leo so take my early impressions below with a pinch of salt:

‘Hits above its price point. Scales up well with a decent source. Tip rolling and burn in resulted in tighter bass and more extended treble yet not to the point of sibilance. A fun V shaped iem with enough mids to give it body and emotion to the music.
Separation and layering are within an acceptable range.
Soundstage is wide and deep with the intimacy and nearness of a live concert in a medium hall’

Psych!! I’m actually a Scorpio and just made the above all up!

More real impressions to follow….

Cable (optional purchase).

You can purchase the Rain with or without a cable (use on of your own).

Further on….in the early days of spring rainfall…

I have to get some more hours on the Rain DD

But yeah…I did some listening with the stock cable and got ahead of myself quite quickly.

Could it be better, The stock cable resembled some other cables i had used with earlier reviewed earphones in the budget area.
Rain had potential or was imagining it? Best thing to do was switch out cables and have a listen.
Subjective sciences bitches!

Switching to the stock Campfire Audio cable makes a big difference (I wanted to use a well known and maybe accessible to some readers stock cable - smokey litz).

Might be worth trying a few different cables again at whatever price point that Rain Cable is.

It certainly restricts what it can do so far (stock cable).

There is an option on the website to purchase with or without the stock cable. If you have other cables its worth a purchase (no cable option) for the main shell alone i think as a daily burner.

Anyway - still early days

Swapped to stock Campfire Audio cable

Makes a difference
- larger soundstage
- more layering and separation

With the stock cable:
- They lack a certain technicality
- And not so musical at times, a bit dull

Psych! I’m actually a Cancer! Triple dip Sike!

Stock cable so far chokes its potential (like Darth Vader in A new hope).

But still its $50....so.....

But $50 bucks is $50 bucks!

Fiifftteee buckeroos, buckerooneies!

Pur pur…Purple rain,…Purple rain!!!

Packaging is nice and simple. But a bit dull and not keeping up with current  budget trends

Could be more...something

Stick an anime girl or something on it.

Name sucks. imho. Razzle dazzle or IG69 or sumthing catchy. I guess the time of naming earphones with random letters and numbers are passed.
So maybe the name does not suck - simple is best?

No carry case is meh. Could have stuck a slim carry case in the box instead of all the cardboard and the cable plastic case. But most of the people reading thei already have enough cases to build a small doghouse. Probably have one or two favorite cases already and the rest just sit in the boxes for audiophile eternity. IEMs all stacked and sorted in some flat partitioned case.

Limited amount of tips - but they seem like good tips for a change. So yeah. Many stock tips i find are not to my liking in silicone density or sizes. I like these.

Anyway as for the sound. I will get a few more hours and see if that dd loosens up - and see if it edges closer to using a non stock cable...

Further on the sound and final thoughts:

The Rain is a mixed offering. With stock cable i think its sold itself short.
If just the earbud is bought it is a good addition to one’s collection.

I think it is fairly capable. Do not expect it to morph into a $500 or $1000 earphone with the addition of a decent cable. But it does clean up the muddiness and treble of the stock cable. Imho.

Signature is your usual v shape. Not a harsh version either. Theres enough mids to please. An attempt to be detailed also is obvious.

It has a medium sound stage and is improved as is overall imaging. An aftermarket litz cable would be a good choice, not copper or silver.

With a Dynamic drive and a single ba of course you are going to get a bit more low end action.

If its one of your first forays into iems it could be worthwhile choice to get started. Even with the stock cable if you new to the game.

I think its a good start. Hopefully more models and added improvements to come.
