Before we get into the Hidizs AP80 Pro - a little bit if a trip down memory lane...

The Hidizs AP80 was earlier, way back when sent to Head pie during the process of their Kickstarter campaign at the time. I did a brief preview which should be updated due to my satisfaction with the device.

The Hidizs AP80 has been one of my secondary back up daps i usually carry along with a TOTL dap. I am aware of some short comings with other Hidizs daps but with the AP80 i have been very satisfied and use it often for a light day out and jogging most recently.

When i read about the upcoming Hidizs AP80 Pro dap my interest was certainly piqued.
Dual dacs and 3.5mm and 2.5mm balanced was an attractive upgrade to an already excellent device.

AP80 and AP80 Pro

The AP80 Pro is slightly larger than the AP80 Pro

Updating the music database was rapid and speedy.

The screen is bright, colorful with depth.

The Hidizs AP80 user interface is very fast and snappy.

Booting up from sleep is extremely fast. A few minor seconds.

Menu and UI

The basic two menu screens reflect the earlier AP80.

Self explanatory by the photos.

Conclusion, thoughts and summary.

The AP80 Pro is a solid dap.

At around US169.00 the price is quite fantastic for what it delivers.

It goes beyond the original by adding an extra dac and 2.5mm balanced out.

It still sounds like the original with the single ended 3.5mm, but the difference with using the balanced 2.5mm port is easily apparent and worth the upgrade. The sound stage is larger, more detailed, a big more air in the treble and a blacker background to my ears.

If you are entering in the world of audio or even a seasoned dap owner looking for a lightweight, easy to use device with an array of options and great sound quality i would recommended the AP80 Pro.

“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” ― Aldous Huxley.

I love the original Hidizs AP80. A reliable workhorse dap.  The AP80 Pro via 2.5mm takes it up a few notches.
Have i found a new dap carry case or will it get caught in the angel pixie wings?

  1. Fantastic overview! I’ve had mine for a while now and it’s one of the best music related objects I’ve ever owned. Here is my video of the Unbox and quick impressions if anyone is interested:

Question: why do some albums just sit in “folders” and not in the main “albums” bit? Can’t figure it out but doesn’t cause much hassle.
